Drawing Release Checklist

• Material and temper stated, with the certificate requirementAlloy, temper and plate form. Say whether a mill certificate travels with the shipment.
• Datum scheme definedPrimary, secondary and tertiary, matching how the part is used in the assembly.
• Form controls called out separately from sizeFlatness and parallelism are not implied by a thickness tolerance.
• Measurement condition statedFree state or constrained. If constrained, give the bolt pattern and the torque.
• Surface finish tied to named surfacesA blanket note prices the whole part at the tightest number on it.
• Finish type, thickness and masked features shownThreads and bores need masking or a pre finish size, on the drawing rather than in an email.
• Critical characteristics identifiedThe few features that must be measured fully, so the rest can be sampled.
• Edge condition specified where it mattersOn handling and gas wetted hardware, a size and a method, not the word deburr.
• Cleaning and packing level statedStandard, degreased and double bagged, or cleanroom packed. It is labour, not an extra.
• Inspection scope agreedFirst article plus sampling, or a report on every piece. They are different prices.
• Process sequence noted where it decides the resultWeld then finish machine, stress relieve before finishing, passivate last.
• Marking and traceability requirementPart number, revision, lot. Where it goes and by what method.
• Revision frozen and superseded files removedOne revision goes out. A change after programming restarts setup and the first article.
• Destination and Incoterm includedExport documentation and packing are real cost and not every shop ships on its own documents.
